The new E-All Mountain wheelset from Hunt are built to handle everything your e-MTB can throw at them
Bike Perfect recently got a first look at the new e-MTB specific wheel at Eurobike
Hunt is about to launch their all-new e-MTB-specific wheelset- the E_All Mountain. Designed at Hunt's West Sussex HQ the E-All Mountain Wheelset has internally reinforced front and rear FEA-engineered alloy rims, designed to be tough enough to stand up to the extra abuse that comes with riding electric mountain bikes. Hunt says the new wheelset will be available in early August but they have already been specced on the new Privateer e-MTB, the Privateer E161, Hunt's partner mountain bike brand.
I recently met up with Andi Sykes, MTB Brand and Marketing Manager for Hunt at Eurobike, who gave me a hands-on first look at the new E-All Mountain Wheelset and he talked me over some of the key performance benefits of the new wheels.
"These new wheels have been developed using FEA modeling, FEA (Finite Element Analysis) capabilities have allowed our designers to refine the rim profile, which is 31mm on both wheels and has added internal reinforcement to cope with the added stresses involved on an e-MTB."
"In comparison to our non-assisted wheels, these are a bit heavier, which we don't mind, considering the weight of electric mountain bikes. They come in around 2201g on the 29-inch, 2143g on 27-inch, and 2168g on the mullet option. We've built them with triple-butted spokes, brass nipples, and steel nipple washers with 32 spokes front and rear, it really beefs up the strength of these wheels."
For the E-All Mountain wheels, Hunt has also added an all-new PhaseEngage e-MTB specific rear hub, with a 6x1 pawl system and a 42t ratchet ring. All 6 pawls will engage at once for super reliable torque transfer, with steel internals for better durability, again designed specifically for an e-MTB.
"Due to the 6x1 system, the engagement angle is 8 degrees, but they are happy with this as it means better reliability on an e-MTB."
Hunt has also upgraded the aluminum used on the wheels to 6069-T6 which they say has a 69 percent greater UTS (Ultimate Tensile Strength) compared to the 6061-T6 alloy used in many other rims on the market. This also results in a class-leading impact resistance that has been tested in the Hunt UK lab to back up their class-leading claims.
Other note-worthy features include oversized rear axles at 17mm, newly updated seals to keep dirt and water away from the freehub system, and REVO dual-sealed bearings.
As with all Hunt wheels, the E-All Mountain wheels are backed by a 3-year warranty, and a 60-day ride and return policy. The wheels are shipped pre-taped and with valves for easy out-of-the-box tubeless set-up.
Hunt says the E-All Mountain wheels will be available in either a 29-inch, 27.5-inch or a mullet configuration, with all the usual freehub options. Available to purchase in early August, with pricing at $599 / £449 / €499.
