Available in a Maroon color, now only in sizes M and XL, with a huge £1,001 discount at Tredz.
Price check: Specialized £1,050 (frame only)
Our Technical Editor, Guy Kesteven loved the Specialized Chisel and called it the the "ultimate underdog icon MTB". Although he rides so many bikes, he very rarely has the chance to get overly attached to most of them, but he became firm friends with the Chisel over the time he had it, saying, "the Chisel has been a brilliant reminder that you don't have to follow the herd or spend a huge amount of cash to have a brilliant time off road on a mountain bike."
The Specialized Chisel is therefore in my opinion and especially at this massively discounted price a perfect option as an entry-level XC MTB, with a superb line-up of components to deliver performance and reliability. The Chisel spec is built around Specialized's aluminum cross-country focussed frame, and while it may be aimed at more of a budget MTB, that doesn't mean that the frame is lacking in technology.
Specialized has used its Smartweld tech on the Chisel, that uses more complex tube forming and welding techniques which removes as much excess material as possible adding to the overall good looks of the bike and helping with its overall lightweight. The Chisel frame weighs in at a claimed 1.4 kg and makes it only 610g heavier than the Specialized's mega costly Epic hardtail.
The build features a SRAM SX Eagle 12-speed groupset, SRAM Level T brakes, a RockShox fork with 100mm of travel, tubeless-ready Specialized wheels and Specialized Fast Trak tires that makes this deal an absolute bargain. The only thing that's worth an immediate upgrade is a dropper seatpost, and the Chisel has dropper routing already in the frame, as part of the internal cable routing.
While this offer is for the UK only, we've added our price checker below which will automatically give you the best price on the Specialized Chisel in your territory.
