Grasshopper Adventure Series announce 2021 race dates
Grasshopper Adventure Series has eight gravel, MTB and adventure events lined up for 2021
The Grasshopper Adventure Series has announced their race dates for 2021. The California-based race series will offer a mixture of gravel and mountain bike events. The events welcome both experienced professionals and recreational riders with multiple distances for all events.
The 2021 Grasshopper series starts in March with the Low Gap event on the 21st of the month. The Lake Sonoma mountain bike race takes place on April 17, followed by the Huffmaster on May 22.
The Jackson Hopper will be held on June 26, while the Lost Coast Hopper is set for October 16.
The organizers of the events also plan three two-day adventure hoppers that will be held between May and early August.
Race organizers have also confirmed that "in the case that we are unable to hold these events we will plan course challenges over a two weekend period.”
The Grasshopper Series celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2020 but were only able to put on two races – Low Gap in January and Super Sweetwater in February.
Mountain bike legend and former Olympian Geoff Kabush took a thrilling win in the Low Gap race after catching former Tour de France rider Peter Stetina. A month later, at the more undulating Sweetwater race, Stetina had his revenge. Rosters for the 2021 series have yet to be announced, but the likes of Stetina, Kabush and Laurens ten Dam are likely to participate once more.
The rest of the 2020 series was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related restrictions. The Grasshopper series wasn’t the only event to be pulled from the North American race scene, as almost every major gravel and mountain bike race was either canceled or postponed.
